Carnival!

JSM music students celebrated the international festival of Carnival on Mardi Gras. We read the children’s book Malaika’s Costume by Nadia Hohn and learned about carnival celebrations around the world from Quebec to Trinidad and Tobago. We culminated our learning in a Carnival parade, with homemade ribbons, masks and instruments and some soca music to dance to.

Happy Lunar New Year from music class! This month we have been listening to stories, singing songs and learning about the Lunar New Year in music. The grade two students have been learning about traditional Chinese instruments.

November Music

The students of JSM were excited to learn O Canada for Remembrance Day and the choir did an excellent performance during our assembly. We continue to work on concepts like "high" and "low" in music class. The grade one classes used the story "In the Tall, Tall Grass" to practice high and low tones on instruments and with ribbons.
